RATING:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

SYNOPSIS:

Find the heir, win the crown.
The curse is finally broken, but Prince Rhen of Emberfall faces darker troubles still. Rumors circulate that he is not the true heir and that forbidden magic has been unleashed in Emberfall. Although Rhen has Harper by his side, his guardsman Grey is missing, leaving more questions than answers.

Win the crown, save the kingdom.
Rumored to be the heir, Grey has been on the run since he destroyed Lilith. He has no desire to challenge Rhen–until Karis Luran once again threatens to take Emberfall by force. Her own daughter Lia Mara sees the flaws in her mother’s violent plan, but can she convince Grey to stand against Rhen, even for the good of Emberfall?

The heart-pounding, compulsively readable saga continues as loyalties are tested and new love blooms in a kingdom on the brink of war.

REVIEW:

I was so lucky to be able to get an early copy of this ARC in a twitter trade and I cannot describe how lucky I feel. I absolutely loved reading A Curse So Dark and Lonely earlier this year, it quickly made it to one of my favourite reads of the year, if not the favourite. It’s safe to say that A Heart So Fierce and Broken had a lot to live up to, and I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I was nervous about reading it. I just couldn’t bare the thought of not liking this book. Of course, Brigid did not let me down, I LOVED THIS BOOK SO BLOODY MUCH.

I don’t even know where to start with this review. There is so much I loved and I just know that anything I write isn’t going to be able to do my feelings justice. A Heart So Fierce and Broken begins exactly where A Curse So Dark and Lonely so cruelly left us – the story itself focusing more on Grey as a main character. This immediately helped me realise how much I would love this book, I loved Grey in the first book and I couldn’t wait to see his character develop.

The introduction to other characters, main and sub was just wonderful. I bloody love Tycho and Lia Mara they were such a brilliant addition to an already amazing series. I really enjoyed getting to know them and watching them develop. I loved how they mixed with the characters that we had grown to love in the first book. We also meet Iisak who I also adore. I would have liked to have seen more of him, we definitely got the right amount I am in no way criticising Brigid, I’m just greedy and wanted all the Iisak. I definitely didn’t expect a character like him which I think is what made me adore him so much.

I loved seeing a discussion about important topics that are not represented enough in society today. We already have Harper, who has cerebral palsy. Something so subtle in the book but also wonderfully adapted. It is not the soul focus of Harper as a character however on occasions it creeps in, it shows that a persons disability does not define them. I loved this from he first book, and even this one. However A Heart So Fierce and Broken also discusses Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) another topic that needs further representation in society. I loved the fact that even though it was only touched on briefly, a definition was given and also an example of experiences that the character had. It was so subtle and so delicately portrayed but just brilliant.

There are so many twists and turns in this book. My heart is broken, I laughed and I cried, I still don’t know how I’m feeling. I just know that I am still not okay and I finished this book 2 days ago. Today is the first day I can even begin to put into words my feelings for this book.

It is a well known fact if you have followed me over the last year that I have been plotting a way to end Lillith’s life since I was introduced to her in A Curse So Dark and Lonely, I have never disliked a character so much. What a horrible vile cow. I didn’t think I could dislike anything just as much as I disliked Lillith. That is until I was introduced to Karis Luran. This woman does not deserve any further explanation. If you disliked Lillith then wait until you meet this creature.

Brigid left us on such a cliff hanger in A Curse So Dark and Lonely, I’m not sure why I thought she would be kind and give us a break at the end of this book. What a fool I am. I need the next book immediately, I can’t wait to read the next one, especially after that ending. If anybody knows of any bribes Brigid may be persuaded by in exchange for the next book RIGHT NOW, let me know. Also, Brigid if you’re reading this you owe me pink tabs. I tab books with pink in parts that I loved, its fair to say that I quickly ran out of pink tabs whilst reading A Heart So Fierce and Broken. So yeah, Brigid, you owe me pink tabs. I’ll let this debt slide if you allow me early access to the next book. By early access I mean now, I don’t care if you haven’t wrote it yet.

On a serious note, when this book is released PICK IT UP. You will not regret it. If you haven’t started this series, where have you been? Stop reading this and start it.
