The Colour of Magic | Terry Pratchett | Review

“If complete and utter chaos was lightning, then he’d be the sort to stand on a hilltop in a thunderstorm wearing wet copper armour and shouting ‘All gods are bastards'”

REVIEW:

I can’t believe this is the first time I have picked this series up, I am 27 years of age. HOW have I waited this long. I have had this book on my shelf for 6 months however it is WAY out of my comfort zone so I have not picked it up until now. i don’t know what I was worried about.

This is heavy fantasy, at points I sat and didn’t have a clue what was going on. But I persevered and I am so glad that I did. All the head scratching and “What the fucks” are so worth it when you get too finishing this book. Pratchett’s imagination is like no other, I am baffled at how he came up with such a world and such concepts but I am so glad that he did. What a legend.

The world was of course, unique. I have never read anything like it and I don’t think I ever will. Thats the point right? Just when you think something can’t get stranger you come across a troll made out of water. Yes you read that right. This is literally a book that you need to read to believe what you are being told is correct. I love the Discworld so much already and I have only just begun.

The characters in this were excellent. I absolutely love Rincewind and Twoflower, both as separate characters and together. They are so funny and work so well together. I absolutely loved the pages filled with witty dialogue and some of the slapstick moments. “Inn-sewer-ants” for one. Ha! I laughed each time I saw it, it definitely didn’t get old. I can’t wait to see what adventure they go on next.

There is a lot to think about and a lot seems to be crammed into a short space. Maybe this could have been a little bit longer with a little bit more explanation added into it.  At some points my tiny brain didn’t seem to cope very well. BUT I feel like this world is something that I will adapt to quite easily as the time goes on. 1 down another 382723 books to go and I cannot wait! I have heard many things about The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic being a weaker series so if this is anything to go by, I cannot wait to read more of the Discworld series.
