“No matter how far I go, I’m still your person. We stand together now.”
The battle for the Crown has begun, but which of the three sisters will prevail?
With the unforgettable events of the Quickening behind them and the Ascension Year underway, all bets are off. Katharine, once the weak and feeble sister, is stronger than ever before. Arsinoe, after discovering the truth about her powers, must figure out how to make her secret talent work in her favor without anyone finding out. And Mirabella, once thought to be the strongest sister of all and the certain Queen Crowned, faces attacks like never before—ones that put those around her in danger she can’t seem to prevent.
I’m going to get this out of the way. I love this series so much. i really enjoyed the first book in this series, so much so before I finished I ordered One Dark Throne to dive into. However, I was told by a fair few people that they didn’t like this book and that the series went downhill from the first. So in true Katie style I put off reading this one for a couple of weeks because I couldn’t bring myself to be disappointed. I was clearly wrong to do this because I loved this book!
I devoured this book within 24 hours of starting it. I would have finished it in one sitting however I was silly enough to pick it up at 11pm – I did read over 200 pages in my first sitting though. I just found that I didn’t want to put this book down. I have a habit when reading, whereby I give myself to a certain chapter and then will have a social media break. I found it hard to give myself a social media break as I just wanted to keep on reading. I don’t know what it is about Kendare Blake’s writing style but I honestly really struggle to stop reading once I have started. I am sad at the time of writing this as I have the third book in the series on order, and despite having amazon prime because of the virus I have to wait until Wednesday until it arrives, when actually I wanted to dive straight back in and find out what happens next!
I love the sisters in this book, even Kat. They are all such unique characters and I really enjoyed seeing their development, especially in this book. Three Dark Crowns was very action packed and left a lot of questions, not only in relation to the plot but also the characters. Whilst the pace of this book was a lot slower, I found that we go to know each of the girls better which is something that I personally really enjoyed. However I can also understand why others may not.
The ending! Now I don’t think it was as impactive as the ending of Three Dark Crowns but emotionally it hit me like a bus. I was not expecting that in the slightest. WHY! I’m still trying to get over that ending and I literally don’t know where Kendare is going to go with this next but I am intrigued to see.
I personally would recommend this series. I went into it thinking that I would not enjoy it when in fact I am loving it. I really cant wait to see what happens next.
